Gibson Les Paul Standard: The Guitar of Choice for Top Music Icons
Page, now in his 70s, favours the Gibson Les Paul line of guitars for his gigs. He’s not the only famous musical personality to do so, however. Other music icons including: Bob Marley, Randy Rhodes, and Saul “Slash” Hudson of Guns N’ Roses fame have also performed with a Les Paul in hand. That said, originals of these guitars are quite rare these days and do fetch a hefty price when sold or auctioned. In fact, only a small number of guitar stockists in the U.K., such as Rainbow Music, sell genuine Les Paul guitars—particularly the Gibson Les Paul Standard, which is the most recognised instrument in the line. What makes the Les Paul Standard the instrument of choice for Jimmy Page and other famous musicians? For the most part, these guitars are widely regarded for their rich, thick, midrange tone and the ability to sustain notes longer than other guitars. All this is possible thanks to a solid mahogany body design, which eliminates feedback whenever a note is sustained.

The New Min-ETune System from Gibson
Imagine this: stepping onstage,
striking your best pose, and hitting the strings with all your
rock-god might.
The bad news: instead of hearing
that glorious, overdriven open-A chord, all you get are dissonant
notes sputtering from your amp! So, rather than standing high in the
pantheon of rock-stardom, you get weird looks from your audience that
make you want to scurry into a hole. It’s an utter nightmare.

Tips for Buying Your Second Guitar
As
a budding guitarist, you’ve worked hard over the years to hone your
talent. In fact, you’ve improved leaps and bounds from the time you
bought that second-hand six-string from your neighbour, (inspired by
"the Boss"... weren't you?) Ever felt like that buzzing
string, is just stopping you getting any further? It sounds like you
need to upgrade to a
new guitar
soon. If this is the case, here are a few tips to help you purchase
the second guitar of your glittering career.
A Flexible Budget Sounds the
Right Chord!
If you’re fixed on getting the
highest quality sound; be ready to stretch your budget a little more!
You need to be flexible... it's a bigger decision than when you
bought your first guitar. This is especially true when it comes to
the signature toys of the big boys... like a Gibson Les Paul. Now
that's a classy piece of kit to aspire to! Of course, buying a guitar
like this is really an investment. A high-quality guitar, like most
Gibson kit, will keep you rocking for years to come and if you look
after it, it could still pay you back handsomely!
